Jake

Artist Info

Biography

Jake was not an artist named Jake, but the duo of Eddie Hardin and Ray Fenwick, who had both served time in the post-Stevie Winwood lineups of the Spencer Davis Group in the late '60s. Jake's sole release was a 1972 single on the Deram label, "And in the Morning"/"You & Me." The songs were typical if subdued early-'70s British rock, the A-side being a pleasant soul-rocker that, like some of the songs on Hardin's early-'70s solo album Home Is Where You Find It, bore some resemblance to Winwood in both material and voice. "You & Me" was a more singer/songwriter-inclined, folk-rockish ballad with a cor anglais solo, written by one Pete Oakman (though Hardin had penned the A-side). Both tracks were included on the 2004 CD reissue of Home Is Where You Find It as bonus cuts. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
