With their similar backgrounds and tastes, it's no coincidence that Florida hopefuls Dan Chavez, aka DJ Dirty Digits, and Dillon Maurer, aka Intellekt, would cross paths. Dirty Digits served as the urban music director at Florida State University's student radio station, WVFS 89.7, and the program director for local hip-hop show The Underground Railroad, in addition to working as a DJ for '80s dance nights. MC Intellekt, while a senior at the University of Florida in Gainesville, was a street promoter helping to book gigs for other rap artists and also founded and hosted the Sunday Night Leftovers underground rap show on the Magic 101.3 radio station -- not to mention working as a hibachi and sushi chef. The two discovered their mutual affinity for jazz and hip-hop after meeting each other at a b-boy contest in Florida. Intellekt enlisted Digits' DJ abilities to perform with him live as well as record tracks for his debut album, Intellektual Property, in 2004. The positive feedback from the album persuaded them to form under the Intellekt & Dirty Digits name in August of that year. They later went back into the studio to polish up and rework that first LP, added new group tracks, and then released Intellektual Property Revised as the IDD duo in 2006. ~ Cyril Cordor, All Music Guide
