Originally known as Gyroscope Sunday, Aussie alt-rock four-piece Gyroscope formed in Perth, Western Australia, in 1997. Within a year, the band had a demo to push, and was playing as many shows as possible to build up its following. In 2000, Gyroscope had built up a decent support résumé, as they had been lucky enough to score gigs with bands like Unwritten Law and Reel Big Fish, and were ready to record their first two EPs. Both eventually saw the light of day in 2001, just before the band took a short break to allow member and drummer Rob Nassif time to further his studies. After school was out, Gyroscope signed a deal with Redline Records, and released the EP Take Time in 2002. The success of that collection led to a deal with Festival Mushroom, which signed the band in 2003. Two further EPs (Midnight Express and Driving for the Storm/Doctor Doctor) were released that year. Gyroscope were finally ready to disembark from "the EP train" in 2004, and after supporting blink-182 and Dashboard Confessional, the band released the album Sound Shattering Sound in June of that year. The band worked on its sophomore release in 2005, this time recording in the rock & roll atmosphere of Los Angeles, and the resulting work, Are You Involved?, hit store shelves in September. The Top 20 success of the album allowed Gyroscope to branch out a bit, touring South Africa, as well as winning trophies (Best Rock Act and Best Punk Act) at the 2006 WAMi Awards. Album number three, Breed Obsession, was recorded in Liverpool, England, and was released in March of 2008.
