"We went for a country theme in the verses, and rapped out the bridges" may sound like the ravings of a developer in the middle of a delirium, but the words are actually plucked from the mouth of a recording artist, describing the process involved in creating something that may or may not be of great benefit to mankind, hip-hop country. George E. Lee is not some zealot advocating that all hip hop fans be transported to their own private kingdom. He happens to be a performer who likes both country and rap, and decided to combine the two, beginning with a ditty entitled "Summer Days," perhaps in tribute to the time of year when artists have time to tinker with strange fusions in their workshops and radio audiences traditionally lap up amusing novelty records. George Lee Jr. & the Crazed Cowboys is the full name of the band behind the strange record. This has also been an active touring band since the late '90s. The 2000 Welcome to Hip Hop Country CD was the initial burst of expression from this outfit, including 14 original songs by Tom Lee, who played guitar and provided backup vocals, and Chris Webb, instrumentally hyperactive on guitar, organ, and percussion, the latter definition applying to just about any object he can whop with a stick. The following year the group released a follow-up with even more original material and an expanded instrumental base involving drummer Stuart Heck, whose last name is a bit polite by Nashville studio standards, and Paul Zahn, once again a player who combines guitar and keyboard abilities. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
