Dolly Parton's bandleader since 2002, and co-producer of her bluegrass album, Halos & Horns, Gary "Biscuit" Davis won the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship in 1979, 1988 and 1996. His first recording experience came, in 1973, when he recorded an album, Playing On The Moon, with a band that he formed with keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist/producer Bob Thiele, Jr., son of influential jazz producer and founder of the Flying Dutchman label, Bob Thiele. The album, which also featured drummer Robert Anthoine, guitarist/vocalist Tom Bailen, guitarist/bouzouki player/vocalist Derrick Hoitsma and bassist Todd Zimmerman, failed to achieve commercial expectations and the group disbanded. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
