An almost impossibly spare country-rock band formed in Philadelphia, Friends of the Library mine the darkest edges of country and folk music for their inspiration. The band began as a quartet, featuring members of past Philadelphia acts like the Low Five, Broadcast for a Clock, and the Lainmeyers. However, where some of their past projects had leaned towards giddy, spastic rock, the Friends of the Library opt for stark and grim tales of desperation and sorrow. After self-releasing their A Rolling Blackout EP, the band stripped down and toured the country as a two-piece, only further enhancing the dark, haunting quality of their music. ~ Sam Eccleston, All Music Guide
