The Faceless Werewolves are a Texas three-piece whose music grafts the primal groove of classic boogie rock with the thick, buzzy guitar attack of post-punk acts like Sonic Youth and Royal Trux. The Faceless Werewolves first came together in Denton, TX, in late 2001, where guitarist Baldomero Valdez was teaching school. Teaming up with guitarist Kelsey Wickliffe and drummer Erica Barton, they called the new group the Faceless Werewolves, with all three members trading off on lead vocals and generating a rough, scrappy sound that generated plenty of bottom end despite the absence of a bass guitar. The Faceless Werewolves became a common presence on the Texas club scene and they opened for dozens of noted touring acts before deciding to take the next step and move to a more music-friendly town. After settling in Austin, TX, in 2005, the Faceless Werewolves caught the ear of Super Secret Records, a local indie label that released the band's first album, Medium Freaky, in 2006. More gigs in the Southwest followed, along with several South by Southwest Music Conference showcases and a tour with Weird War, and the second Faceless Werewolves album, Pardon Me, Are Those Your Claws on My Back?, appeared in 2008. ~ Mark Deming, All Music Guide
