Extra Blue Kind started almost by accident as singer/guitarist P. David Hazel, drummer Randee Eimer, guitarist David Barajas, and bass player Ryan Plew, four Indiana University students, met at a house party one night and decided to play when the scheduled band didn't show up. It worked out so well that they started Extra Blue Kind, eventually moving to Indianapolis together to pursue their music further. On a whim they entered a radio contest, and upon winning it they had the opportunity to play at the city's X Fest in 2002, record a single, "King of Everything," and even open for Creed in a nearby town. However, their quickly earned fame soon proved detrimental, and Extra Blue Kind's popularity dwindled. Finally, in 2005, the band signed with Cincinnati's Opulent Records and released their debut full-length, Tide and the Undertow, and after a few lineup changes (guitarist Trevor Wathen and bassist Jeremy Blount were added) began touring to promote it. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
