One of the more dynamic duos in jungle's techstep movement, Alan Clark and Justin Maughan recorded a non-stop barrage of singles for labels such as S.O.U.R., Emotif, Smokers Inc., Mind Switch and Elements of Sound. Clark, who had begun working as a soul/funk DJ in the early '80s, moved on to production in Britain's heady rave scene by the end of the decade. He recorded with several bands including the hardcore techno act PSI Division, and became friends with Justin Maughan, another member of PSI Division with whom he worked at the record store Bass Generator. After parting ways with the group, the duo began recording and DJing together. After meeting with Dave Stone, co-owner of S.O.U.R. Records (Sound of the Underground), Elementz of Noise was born. From the S.O.U.R. sub-label Emotif came singles like "Astral," "Neon," "Sights and Sounds" and "Psyche," plus tracks for seminal S.O.U.R./Emotif compilations Tech Steppin' and Shapeshifter: A Jazzstep Injection. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
