This pianist was part of the backup support group for a mid-'50s edition of the Jazz at the Philharmonic All-Stars. Burke was not a genre superstar along the lines of drummer Louis Bellson or bassist Ray Brown, with whom he made up a rhythm section triumvirate. This was the formation that assembled whenever the group's star pianist, Oscar Peterson, was, say, not comfortable providing mere accompaniment to a featured soloist. Otherwise, Burke waited in the wings. He should not be mistaken for the trombonist of the same name. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
