References to the Alamo usually lead to Texas, but in the case of Eddie Edwards & the Alamo, the road leads to merry old England. Swinging like a pendulum, the climate of rain, rain and more rain sprouted bands, bands and more bands. This one came up with only one recording, but the 1975 release can boast of being an EP, not just a single. A total of four songs were recorded, the A-side providing a weather report via "The Golden Days of Summer" and "Windy and Warm" while more serious subjects are saved for those brave enough to flip the record; not a large group based on the record's reputation. "An interesting obscurity, though of no special merit," was the reaction of Vernon Joynson in The Tapestry of Delights, just about the ultimate reference to every vintage English rock record or band. Just exactly what is interesting might be the names of the bandmembers, about which so little is known that who plays which instrument has yet to be revealed to the public of large. But not every group has members named Eddie Le Surf and Tony Le Surf, clearly fellows who missed their true calling as members of a Quebecois surf music band. The name Jim Jacques seems a little bogus, and as leader, Eddie Edwards winds up misidentified as one of the many other performers with this name. Some writers think this is the same Edwards who plays both bass and banjo on the British trad jazz scene, but he would have been 12-years-old at the time this EP was released, so he's not likely to have been leading a band. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
