Durango 95 formed in 1981 in Oshawa. Members were lead singer Greg Weir, guitarists Paul MacNeil and Rob Sweeney, drummer Darren Smith, and bassist Roger Branton. Before long, the guys began landing gigs performing in Toronto, Canada, at clubs along the famous Queen Street scene. The group's debut album, Lose Control, was released in 1983 on the Star Records label. Durango 95 struggled to stay alive for a couple more years, but found the band ran short of any real staying power. It fell apart completely by 1985. About a year later there was another spark from the members, a change of names; the group became known as the Purple Toads. The result of this short-lived band was one self-titled album in 1986. Seven years after the release of Durango 95's first album, a second one appeared. It came about from some tracks that had been recorded in 1984 -- on Mother's Day no less -- that were pulled together and combined as a sophomore album. Mother's Day must have seemed as good of a title to stick on the offering as any other, and so it was. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
