Disco Citizens

Artist Info

Biography

A project of pianist/keyboardist/guitarist Nick Bracegirdle, Disco Citizen has continued to evolve. Although their debut album, Right Here Right Now, released on the Deconstruction label in July 1995, became a top forty UK hit, they reached their peak after signing with Alex Gold's Extravaganza label and changing their name to Chicane.

The change seemed to make all the difference. The first single, "Offshore", after the re-christening, reached the fourteenth chart position and became a European dance hit. Although its follow-up, "Footprint", peaked at number thirty-four, Chicane's third release, "Sunstroke", zoomed to the top slot on the UK club charts. Their second album, Far from The Maddening Crowds, released in September 1997 sold more than eighty thousand copies. They released their fourth single, "Nagasaki Badger", was released during the summer of 1998.

Disco Citizen and Chicane were heralded by such artists as Bryan Adams, who had an international hit with a re-mix of Bracegirdle's tune, "Cloud #9", and Maire Brennan of Irish group, Clannad, who lent her vocals to a remake of Clannad's "The Theme From Harry's Game". Adams appeared as an uncredited vocalist on Chicane's single, "Don't Give Up". ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
