Denny Dale

Biography

The bass player and background vocalist on the Fendermen's 1960 smash hit, "Mule Skinner Blues", Denny Dale has gone on to become one of the most respected musicians in the American Midwest. The producer and host of cable television shows, North Country Music Scene in 1983, and Country Videos And More from 1990 until 1996, Dale has remained active as a musician since relocating to Texas in 1994. His band, the Hollisters, received a Houston music award as "best country act of 1997", while its debut album, The Land Of Rhythm And Pleasure, was one of the city's best selling releases of the year. Dale and the Hollisters continued to attract attention after relocating to Austin in 2000, releasing an impressive second album, Sweet Inspiration, a few months after the move.



Joined by guitarist/vocalists Jim Sundquist and Phil Humphrey and drummer Johnny Hauer, Dale formed the Fendermen in 1958. Recording a rock version of Jimmie Rodgers's "Mule Skinner Blues", in a small Wisconsin studio, the group had a major hit after re-recording it in the large Key Bank Recording Studios in Minneapolis. The top rock act in the Midwest, from 1959 until 1961, the Fendermen were inducted into the Iowa Hall of Fame in 1997.



Recording as a soloist since 1965, when he recorded the singles, "One More For The Road" and "Love You Everyday", Dale played with Webb Wilder in the late-1980s and early-90s. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
