Founded by vocalist/bassist Karen Kanan Corrêa and drummer Sivan Harlap -- both former members of the Hissyfits -- the New York City trio Demander traffics in the same indie rock circles as Sleater-Kinney and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Including guitarist Jared Scott, the coed lineup first assembled in 2004 and released a five-song EP the following year. Tours alongside the Hold Steady, Morningwood, and the Giraffes amplified Demander's public profile, and the group briefly retired to Brooklyn to record its debut LP. The Unkindness of Ravens was issued in limited quantities in 2007, with a large-scale release planned for 2008. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
