Brothers Alex and Giovanni Guillen formed Los Angeles’ ultra-dark, post-punk revivalists Deathday Party in 2008, and completed their lineup with the addition of drummer Joevanie Lopez. Along with the usual influences like Joy Division, the trio’s abrasive, sinister sound bears the mark of black metallers Burzum, no wave mastermind Glenn Branca -- whose “Symphony #13 (Hallucination City)” for 100 guitars the Guillen brothers participated in during 2006 -- and industrial pioneers Einstürzende Neubauten. Deathday Party’s debut single, Pink Noise, arrived in October 2008 as a digital download. The Guillens played with the likeminded band Blessure Grave for some of that band’s live shows and recorded Deathday Party's first full-length, Ghost Pains, which was released in October 2010. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
