The no-frills, metal-laced hardcore of Deathblow came to life in Winston-Salem, NC, during the summer of 2004 as a means to bring music with more of a message than just pure, sonic brutality to the local scene. To do so, vocalist Paul Genet (Azazel, Aria) and drummer Jeremy Stowers (Azazel, End of All, Killwhitneydead) enlisted the skills of bassist Josh Mclaughlin (Outrun the Storm) and guitarist Chris Sheets (Seneca). Taking influence from the likes of Earth Crisis, 108, Hatebreed, and Warzone, the guys issued their debut EP, Strike Back, in mid-2005 through Closed Casket Activities. Rounds of touring followed before Deathblow hooked up with local imprint Tragic Hero Records for the release of their early 2007 full-length, Thicker Than Blood. ~ Corey Apar, All Music Guide
