Hailing from Ayshire, Scotland, Dead End Kids (originally known as Vehicle) formed in 1976 as a cover band that played Creedence Clearwater Revival and Buddy Holly in the local pubs, clubs, and discos. As their sound progressed into Gary Glitter-esque glam rock, the band caught the attention of a record executive from CBS while opening up for the Bay City Rollers. Producer Barry Blue offered to record their first single; a remake of the Honeycombs' "Have I the Right," released in February of 1977. The song made a nice dent in the U.K. charts -- making its way up to number six -- and they were featured on Top of the Pops soon after. At the peak of their success in 1977, they released their only full-length, Breakout, and enjoyed their moment in the limelight, briefly swooning the teenyboppers before the glam scene was forgotten for Mohawks and safety pins. Thirty years after the original release of Breakout, Glam/7T's reissued the disc with three bonus tracks in October of 2007. ~ Jason Lymangrover, All Music Guide
