Hard rock quartet Deacon Brody was formed in Boston in the fall of 1995; originally an acoustic duo dubbed Edie's Van spotlighting singers/guitarists Jason Roman and Dave Rowe, the lineup soon expanded to a three-piece with the addition of bassist Brad Gray, and with temporary drummer Kevin Lee the group recorded its debut EP Medusa's Curtain in 1996. Rechristening themselves Deacon Brody in honor of a Scottish pub, the band's line-up crystallized with the addition of drummer Dan Orchik; relocating to Athens, GA, they recorded the full-length Splitter in 1997, followed a year later by Songs from a City of Marigolds. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
