Christian alternative band Dakoda Motor Co. formed in the early '90s around vocalist Davia Vallesillo, guitarist/vocalist Peter King (a pro surfer and frequent host for MTV's Sandblast series), guitarist Elliot Chenault, bassist Derik Toy and drummer Chuck Cummings. Signed to the gospel label Myrrh, the band released Into the Sun in 1993 and Welcome Race Fans one year later. In 1995, Melissa Brewer joined the band (replacing Vallesillo), and the band moved to Holiday/Atlantic. Dakoda Motor Co.'s first major-label LP, Railroad, was released in early 1996. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
