Biography

The brilliant juxtaposition of Sarah Tanat Jones' vocals with brash post-punk guitar riffs and solid backbeat are what defines Edinburgh, Scotland's Come on Gang. Channeling the raw pop sensibility of such female rock legends as Karen O or Chrissie Hynde, Tanat Jones, who, amazingly enough, also plays drums, joins Mikey Morrison on guitar and Trev Courtney on bass. Together, they create a fun, post-wave sound that's reminiscent of the Strokes. The trio formed in April of 2007 while Courtney and Tanat Jones were attending Edinburgh College of Art. They advertised for a guitarist, found Morrison, and quickly made a name for themselves as a buzzworthy party band, bringing about comparisons to another famed Glasgow art school band, Franz Ferdinand. The 2008 release of their debut two-track single, Wheels, on British indie label Euphonios, combined with their infectious stage presence, garnered significant media attention. After an acoustic set on BBC, Come on Gang began to tour internationally. In December of that year, they released their second single, a Straight to Video Records split with Kid Canaveral called Start the Sound/I Don't Have the Heart for This. 2009 found Come on Gang performing stateside at South by Southwest, and the spring brought about Fortune Favours the Brave, their first full-length album, proving that the wonder of Tanat Jones' lilting vocals mixed with hard-hitting guitars and drum beats are more than just a Scottish art school fad. ~ Heather Wellman, All Music Guide
