Bridging indie rock attitude with prog rock soundscapes, Indiana's Check Engine came together in early 2000 after several failed attempts in other bands. Sweep the Leg Johnny's Steve Sostak and Chris Daly had been jamming together since the early '90s, but yearned for something more permanent. Big'N drummer Brian Wnukowski and Lynx bass player Paul P. Joyce made that wish come true, solidifying Check Engine's creative unit. Their self-titled effort was issued on Southern in early 2002. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
