As the group's name suggests, Camper Van Chadbourne was a collaboration between avant-garde musician Eugene Chadbourne and various members from Camper Van Beethoven. Bassist Victor Krummenacher and violinist/keyboardist/mandolin player Jonathan Segel were the most consistent members of the project along with Chadbourne, though Camper's vocalist David Lowery contributed to early gigs and albums like the 1987 self-titled debut. Camper Van Chadbourne played and recorded sporadically through the late '80s and early '90s before the core trio reunited in 1999 for some live dates at the Knitting Factory. That year also saw the release of Used Record Pile, which collected tracks from the group's previous albums, as well as a live effort, Revenge of Camper Van Chadbourne. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
