Biography

RSS
Toronto-born R&B diva Camille Douglas seemed to be on the threshold of stardom in the mid-1990s. A regular performer at the bimonthly R&B and Soul showcase at Toronto nightspot, the Bump'N'Hustle, Douglas was featured on the multi-artist compilation, Groove Essential, Volume 1, released on the independent Black-owned label, Beat Factory, in 1996. She appeared as opening act for such performers as Keith Wo, Monica, Doug E. Fresh and the Braxtons. Singing in church since the age of nine, Douglas honed her skills while competing in some of Canada's most prestigious talent contests. The winner of the talent search division of the Rising Star Competition in 1995, she placed second at the Amateur Night Competition at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, and appeared on the nationally-televised show, It's Showtime At The Apollo". Douglas has also made her presence felt as a spokesperson/judge for the Brewer Association of Canada's Stand Up, Speak Out, Be Heard campaign for responsible drinking. Although she released an impressive debut album, Don't Leave Me Hangin', in February 1998, Douglas has so far found predicted fame elusive. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
