Consisting of Bryan Ciliberto (guitar, bass, vocals), Bryan Terry (guitar, bass, vocals), George Drag (guitar), and Will Kraft (drums), the Atlanta-based band the Butterflies fit into the alterna-pop category perfectly. Leaders Ciliberto and Terry met through a music paper ad and began a fruitful songwriting partnership (the duo split all songwriting credits 50/50). Mixing such varied influences as Elvis Costello, Syd Barrett, and present-day alternative sounds, the band automatically began receiving offers from record companies. One year later, in 1995, the duo inked a record deal with Ng. They recorded their debut release, Bored Room, in July of the same year, and enjoyed college radio and chart success. Heading back into the studio to write new tunes in the summer of 1996, the Butterflies enlisted Drag as third guitarist, and while Susan Holbrook drummed on the ensuing album, Will Kraft wound up becoming their permanent drummer. Their self-titled follow-up appeared in August 1997, produced by J.Z. Barrell (Luna, Moe Tucker, etc.). ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
