Formed by the same team that molded the careers of the Backstreet Boys, 'NSync, and Britney Spears, Boyz N Girlz United took root in Orlando amidst the boom of late-'90s teen pop. The multi-cultural foursome signed with Johnny Wright's W.I.R.E. Records in 1999 and went on to work with J.C. Chasez, member of the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling group 'NSync. Chasez penned several tracks for BNG's debut album, including the minor hit "Messed Around." Combing club/dance elements with traditional pop grooves, BNG spent the first half of 2000 touring in support of LFO and Britney Spears. A self-titled debut album arrived that summer, but the group's music failed to make a serious splash in a year dominated by 'NSync's No Strings Attached, the Backstreet Boys's Black & Blue, and Spears' Oops!...I Did It Again. Boyz N Girlz United disbanded soon after, and member Robbie Carrico later resurfaced as a contestant on season 7 of American Idol. ~ MacKenzie Wilson & Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
