Bonita, California's Boyish Charm definitely lived up to their name. This was thanks in part to their combination of innocent, playfully driven guitar-pop and clever lyrics which began since their first 21 song cassette The Secret Recordings released in 1996. Continuing on with the pop quirkiness, the Charm put out the ¡Viva la Boyish Charms! and Confronted by a Variety of Spirits, Complete with Apparitions, Odors, Ghostly Music, and Situations That Frightened the Animals demos within the following two years on their own ((tape-tape)) recordings. Eventually, Hub City Records took notice and released The Extended-Playing Paradox CD EP at the end of 1998. Upon the 1999 single entitled "Grandma Becomes The Moon" on Spineless Records, ¡Viva la Boyish Charms! was re-released on LP format in July of that year on Hey Buddy Records. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
