Biography

Best known as dancers on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, Mark Ballas and Derek Hough are also the co-guitarist/lead singers of the Ballas Hough Band. A modern pop ensemble that rides the line between funky dance-pop and adult alternative rock, the Ballas Hough Band formed in London, England, in 2005. Originally named Almost Amy, the band changed its name after relocating to Los Angeles in 2007. Individually, Ballas and Hough have both achieved much success as professional ballroom dancers and, in fact, Hough and his sister Julianne moved to England in the late '90s to study dance with Ballas' parents, the world-famous dance team of Corky and Shirley Ballas. Also featured in the Ballas Hough Band are keyboardist Emily Grace, bassist Sam Marder, and drummer Harry Sullivan. The band released its self-titled debut album on Hollywood Records in 2009. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
