Alvis "Eddie" Edwards is an artist who shows up on compilations of rockabilly and early rock & roll less because of his performance genius than because one of his titles. "Real Gone Baby," embodies an essential virtue in this genre: the cool song title. For Grab This and Dance, Volume 20 to compete with Super Rock and Roll, Part B, the list of song titles must be full of hep, jive, and trashy references. As a fact, "Real Gone Baby" is on both of these compilations, as well as a handful of others. But the Edwards contribution to rockabilly lore pretty much ends there. Two other titles exist by this performer. One is the flipside to "Real Gone Baby," an ode to getting up in the morning titled "I Wake Up Crying." This pair of ditties was recorded for RCA in 1959. Another song, "It's Cool," might just as well have been called "It's Obscure" considering the lack of information about its origins. Nonetheless, the track shows up on a White Label compilation that boasts of being The Best Original Rock and Roll in Town. Edwards was also employed as a rhythm guitarist for '50s teen idol Tommy Sands. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
