Biography

Alan Moore is renowned for instilling a post-punk attitude and a Gothic narrative style in American comic books in the '80s; not as well known is Moore's involvement in music projects. Moore was originally a cartoonist for the U.K. rock & roll magazine Sounds; however, Moore was appalled by his lack of drawing skills so he focused on writing instead. In 1983, Moore recorded "The March of the Sinister Ducks" with the Sinister Ducks, contributing a voice-over under the pseudonym Translucia Baboon. Also featuring Bauhaus bassist David J, "The March of the Sinister Ducks" was included as a flexi-disc in the comic book Critters No. 23. Moore's British comic series V for Vendetta was the inspiration for David J's EP of the same name; "This Vicious Cabaret," a Moore composition from the EP, reappeared on David J's On Glass album. Moore continued to collaborate with David J into the '90s on The Birth Caul: A Shamanism of Childhood in 1995 and The Moon and Serpent Grand Egyptian Theater of Marvels in 1996. In 1998, Moore and instrumentalist Gary Lloyd released Brought to Light, a text reading of Moore's graphic novel.
