Biography

Adron is the professional moniker of Adrienne McCann, a vocalist, songwriter, and nylon-string guitarist whose love of Brazilian music and exotic contemporary sounds is as pronounced as her alluring yet cozy stage presence. Born in Chicago, IL, in 1987, Adron was classically trained on the piano from the age of four, listening to Johann Sebastian Bach and Ennio Morricone. At 12 she taught herself to play guitar listening to the music of Beck and was a fan of jazz harp player Dorothy Ashby, but her earliest and most obvious influence is the Beatles. She also professes love for the songs of Connie Francis, Elvis Presley, and Donovan. Of the tropical music she initially heard, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Luiz Bonfá were emotionally stirring. Her family moved to Atlanta, where she began writing her own material and playing in public, seen at the Star Bar, the Earl, and A Cappella Books. Two years later she was performing at the nationally renowned Eddie's Attic, learning sitar, and preparing to graduate from high school. After a year at a women's liberal arts college in Southern California she began to pursue music full-time, and in the spring of 2007, just months before her 20th birthday, she returned to Atlanta. Loosely categorized as tropicalia or beach jams, Adron's summertime music also utilizes harpsichord, whistles, and mouth clicks. Her eponymously titled debut CD for the New Street label features so-called fairy tale folk songs she wrote as a teenager. She moved to Brooklyn in New York City, working in a coffee shop when not performing. ~ Michael G. Nastos, All Music Guide
