4Troops began as an idea from Sony executives who approached Victor Hurtado, long the overseer and organizer of the U.S. Army’s entertainment and music shows, about putting together a group of veterans who could sing and tour to raise awareness and money for veterans' groups. Hurtado assembled singers Meredith Melcher, who served as a platoon leader in Iraq in 2003, Ron Henry, a former transport manager in Iraq, David Clemo, who placed fiber-optic cables in Iraq, and Daniel Jens, a field artillery crewman in Iraq, for that very purpose and 4Troops were born. The group generated a lot of positive attention in the media and began recording a debut album with producer Frank Filipetti in New York. The resulting album, simply titled 4Troops, appeared from Masterworks in 2010. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
