Red State Update is a byproduct of the Blue Collar Comedy revolution with an act that's mostly political and ironic enough to be championed by the progressive online magazine Comedians Jonathan Shockley and Travis Harmon play Dunlap and Jackie Broyles, two country bumpkins who record their editorial videos in a bunker underneath Jackie's fictional market in Murfreesboro, TN. Dunlap is young loose cannon while Jackie is older and can't stand the hippies who come through town every year on their way to Bonnaroo. Shockley and Harmon began uploading their Dunlap and Jackie videos to the Internet in 2006 and soon earned a cult following. In 2007 during the CNN-YouTube Democratic debate, one of the duo's videos was shown to the candidates along with the 2.6 million viewers at home. Subscriptions to their YouTube channel took off, and by the end of the year they were popular enough to earn a guest appearance from Democratic presidential hopeful Mike Gravel. In 2008 the Dualtone label released their debut, How Freedom Sounds. The album was a mix of the duo's commentary and songs like "Iraq (I Don't Wanna Go)," "Get the Hell Outta My Store Hippie," and "Stripper Without a Kid." ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
