Impromp2 are a smooth jazz and hip-hop duo featuring trumpeter/vocalist Johnny Britt and rapper Sean E. Mac. Formed in Los Angeles in 1993, Impromp2 came together after Britt auditioned for, but was ultimately not chosen to join, Sade on her Love Deluxe World Tour. Undeterred, Britt, who had previously studied music in Paris and spent three years as musical director with the Temptations, quickly formulated his own band concept. Taking inspiration from Sade's smooth R&B style, as well as trumpeter Miles Davis' 1992 hip-hop jazz album Doo-Bop, Britt began auditioning rappers for a project that would combine his own soulful vocals and trumpet playing with a hip-hop vibe. Britt eventually chose Los Angeles rapper Sean E. Mac and Impromp2 was born. The duo released their debut album, You're Gonna Love It, on the Motown subsidiary Mo Jazz in 1995. Two years later, they returned with Can't Get Enough. In 2003, Impromp2 moved to Big3 Records for their third full-length album, Definition of Love. The group's fourth studio effort, It Is What It Is, appeared on Orpheus/JCS Records in 2008. Since 2010, Britt has largely focused on a solo career and in 2012 released the album Feels So Good. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
