An award winning Canadian-American news anchor and news director born in Calgary, Alberta, Byron MacGregor scored a Top Ten hit in 1974 with his spoken word recording of the Gordon Sinclair-penned patriotic editorial "The Americans," which was set against a performance of "America the Beautiful" by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The youngest news director, just 19, at the popular AM radio station CKLW out of Windsor, Ontario, MacGregor's rendition of "The Americans," which was also a hit for Sinclair in 1973, eventually went gold, and has since sold over three-and-a-half-million copies, the proceeds of which were donated to the American Red Cross. MacGregor died on January 5, 1995 at the age of 46. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
