Working alongside his twin brother Joel, guitarist Benji Madden steadily climbed the modern rock charts with Good Charlotte, a Maryland-based pop-punk outfit that formed in 1996. Epic Records released the band's self-titled debut in 2000, and the Maddens soon found themselves hosting MTV's All Things Rock, a gig that increased their visibility and helped propel Good Charlotte's sophomore album, The Young and the Hopeless, into the forefront of modern rock. The Chronicles of Life and Death (2004) and Good Morning Revival (2007) didn't fare as well, but the Madden twins had already reached celebrity status, a feat that owed as much to their well-publicized romances as their musical output. Benji Madden and Australian vocalist Sophie Monk broke off their 15-month engagement in early 2008, and Benji struck up a romance with Paris Hilton soon after. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi
