Performance art troupe Blue Man Group is plunging headfirst into the rock world for its upcoming stint on the Area2 tour, scaling back its theatrics and putting more emphasis on the musical aspect of its show.
D'Angelo, Common, Dead Prez, Blackalicious, and Macy Gray are among the artists who have contributed to the latest edition in the Red Hot charity album series, "Red Hot + RIOT!," due Oct. 16 from MCA. The set salutes late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, with proceeds benefiting Red Hot's various AIDS-related fundraising efforts, particularly in Africa. Kuti died of AIDS-related causes in 1997.
The British army is retreating in the face of a famously combative enemy: the rock group Oasis. The army said yesterday (June 23) that it was withdrawing a recruitment video featuring two Oasis songs after the Manchester-based group refused to give permission to use the tracks.
A concert in Antigua by R&B sensation Alicia Keys was canceled because the concert's promoters didn't pay her appearance fees, her agent said. Scheduled for Friday night, the show was advertised as the first of a Caribbean tour. The amount of the contract was reported to be $60,000.
Duran Duran has recorded 15 songs for its reunion album, which will feature the band going back to its modern rock-meets-dance music roots, Billboard.com has learned. Speaking from a London studio where the band is recording the still-untitled set, producer/Chic founder Nile Rodgers says the song "Taste of Summer" appears to be a frontrunner for the first single.
