Earle, Chicago Vets 'Waltz' Again

Steve Earle, Wilco's John Stirratt, and former Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will join Nicholas Tremulis' house band for the fourth annual Waltz benefit. The event, set for March 23 at Chicago's Metro, takes its name from "The Last Waltz" concert honoring the breakup of the Band. Proceeds will benefit Heartland Alliance's Neon Street whose stated mission is to "ensure that homeless teens do not become homeless adults."

Keene Gets Star Help On 'Merry-Go-Round'

Power-pop icon Tommy Keene will release his first studio album in nearly four years on June 4 as part of a new deal with spinART Records. Titled "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down," the 12-song follow-up to 1998's "Isolation Party" (Matador) will feature such guests as former Wilco member Jay Bennett on keyboards. According to Keene, Gin Blossoms members Robin Wilson and Jesse Valenzuela also supplied backing vocals to a number of tracks.
