The White Stripes have rolled out plans for a six-week North American summer tour, beginning June 13 in Mountain View, Calif. The Detroit duo has shows on tap through July 23 at New York's Central Park SummerStage, with support to come from hometown rock act Whirlwind Heat. The Stripes are currently in Europe and will play Hamburg tonight (May 20).
2001 - Renato Carosone, a key figure in Italian music in the post-war era, dies in Rome at the age of 81. Carosone, a Neapolitan, was most famous for his 1956 hit "Tu Vuo'Fa'L'Americano" ("You Want to Play the American"), which was considered the Italian anthem of that era.
Director Martin Scorsese is working on a documentary film titled "Bob Dylan Anthology Project," a biography about the iconic folk rocker. The film, planned for release in 2005, will chronicle Dylan's 1963 breakthrough and the cultural and political influence of his music, Scorsese and his producing partners said.
The video for the new Radiohead single "There There" is being screened throughout the day today (May 20) on the Jumbotron video screen in New York's Times Square. In addition, the clip is being shown at the beginning of each hour all day on MTV2. "There There" is drawn from the album "Hail to the Thief," due June 10 from Capitol. The cut is No. 21 this week on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks airplay chart.
Justin Timberlake says "fans can expect a spectacle" when they turn out for his Justified and Stripped summer tour with Christina Aguilera. "It is two shows really for the price of one," Timberlake said today (May 20) of the tour, which begins June 4 in Phoenix. "All we're really looking to do is get kids in the seats and keep their asses out of them for at least an hour-and-a-half."
Scott Weiland has been charged with cocaine and heroin possession in Los Angeles, two years after completing a jail term for violating his probation on the same charges, prosecutors said today (May 20). As previously reported, the Stone Temple Pilots singer was arrested over the weekend in Burbank, Calif., and released on bail several hours later.
