Hamburg, Germany-based edel Music AG has agreed to make its entire catalog available to Napster when the music file-swapping company launches its new membership model later this year, Billboard Bulletin reports. Napster is developing the new model through a joint venture with Bertelsmann eCommerce Group (BeCG). Edel is the first label outside of Bertelsmann to endorse Napster.

Though it didn't sell the 1.25 million it did the week leading up to Christmas, the Beatles' "1" (Apple/Capitol) moved more than 451,000 copies last week to keep it on top of The Billboard 200. After only seven weeks, the set has sold more than 5 million copies, and has ranked at No. 1 for five straight weeks on the chart, which will officially be released tomorrow (Jan. 4).

Grateful Dead songs, originals, and covers litter the first of two classic concerts by the Jerry Garcia Band that will be released by Grateful Dead Records/Arista in the near future. Recorded May 21, 1976, at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, "Don't Let Go," is due Jan. 23. The second set, "Shining Star," will be released in March.
