A Tribe Called Quest principal Ali Shaheed Muhammad's Garden Seeker Productions has signed a new deal with Penalty Recordings and Ryko Distribution. Muhammad's solo debut, "Shaheedullah and Stereotypes," will arrive Oct. 12, to be followed later this year or in the first quarter of 2005 by releases from Chip Fu, Kay and Sy Smith.
In the year between finishing his new album and its anticipated release next month, Paul Westerberg has shifted his focus to film. He has been working on songs for the Sony Pictures Animation project "Open Season," which he also expects to score.
After Pearl Jam reassembles in early October for its first live shows in nearly a year, the group will get busy on its eighth studio album. "I think they're planning on going back to the studio this winter," manager Kelly Curtis tells Billboard.com. As for a possible release date, he would only say, "When they're done, they give it to us and we go."
