Urban bachata chart-toppers Aventura and veteran Puerto Rican pop star Chayanne were the night's big winners, determined by fan voting online and via mobile. Aventura won for catchiest song, favorite tropical artist and CD to die for for its latest album, "The Last." Chayanne won for favorite pop artist as well as in other offbeat categories: "My idol is..." and "¡Qué rico que se mueve!," or "best moves."'

Shakira, winner of the night's "Supernova" special award, kicked off the show with a performance of the Spanish-language version of her single "Gypsy," followed by her "Waka Waka (Esto es Africa)." Selena Gomez, speaking in Spanish, presented the favorite video award to Shakira for "Loba" (She Wolf) alongside her "Ramona and Beezus" co-star Joey King. Juanes performed his new single, "Yerbatero," and Enrique Iglesias and Juan Luis Guerra presented their duet, "Cuando Me Enamoro," for the first time on U.S. TV.
