Crowdsurfing on upraised hands and inviting the audience to bumrush the stage, rapper Asher Roth owned the crowd at the Chicago and Dallas stops on Billboard and Chevrolet's spring 2012 First Look tour.
After DFM/Deuce Funk Monsters warmed up Chicago's Riviera theater March 20, the twin mic skills of Nina Sky's Nicole and Natalie Albino took over. But the main attraction was Roth, who performed favorites from his debut album "Asleep In The Bread Aisle" to a sea of upraised iPhones and fans in sweatshirts name-checking his 2009 hit, "I Love College."
Burning Hotels' melodic rock got the night started at Dallas' Palladium on March 22, before Nina Sky again steered the night into energetic R&B territory in preparation for Asher Roth's headlining set. The Pennsylvannia-bred MC is planning to release his "Bread Aisle" follow up, "Is This Too Orange?," later this year.
The Dallas and Chicago gigs were the first two stops on Billboard and Chevrolet's Asher Roth-headlined First Look tour, which next heads to Los Angeles on April 17, before wrapping up in San Francisco on April 24. Free tickets are available for the California dates:
Both West Coast shows feature opener Capital Cities, while Radical Something is an additional support act in Los Angeles.
