2011 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas
The Black Keys performs during night 2 of the 2011 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas at the Gibson Amphitheatre on December 11, 2011 in Los Angeles, California.

The extra-colorful lineup for the 2012 Lollapalooza festival, led by the Black Keys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and a reunited Black Sabbath, was unveiled on Wednesday morning (Apr. 11). The annual C3 Presents-promoted fest will return to Chicago's Grant Park for the eighth consecutive year from Aug. 3-5.

The main attraction for the U.S. incarnation of Lollapalooza is Black Sabbath, who will play its only North American show of its upcoming reunion trek at the festival. The legendary rockers had announced last November that they planned to embark on a massive tour and record a new album in 2012, but were forced to reshuffle their reunion plans due to guitarist Tony Iommi's battle with lymphoma. Sabbath is still set to perform at the Download Festival in Donnington, U.K. on June 10.

Meanwhile, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will return to Lollapalooza less than four months after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a year after the release of their tenth studio album, "I'm With You." While RHCP is also headlining Bonnaroo this year, the Black Keys, who released seventh album "El Camino" last December and currently have two songs ("Lonely Boy" and "Gold on the Ceiling") in the Top 10 of the Rock Songs chart, are set to headline Coachella later this month.

Top 5 Lollapalooza 'WTF?!' Moments

A little below the headliners on the bill, Jack White is set to bring his "Blunderbuss" solo material to Lollapalooza, while Florence & The Machine will make its debut at the fest this year. Avicii and Justice have been tapped to perform at the Lolla main stages in a nod to the EDM explosion, although Perry's dance tent will remain alive and well with artists like Bassnectar, Calvin Harris, Santigold and Kaskade.

Other notable artists on the 2012 Lollapalooza lineup include reunited rockers the Afghan Whigs and At The Drive-In; Icelandic enigmas Sigur Ros; mysterious R&B phenom The Weeknd; and Hot 100 champs Fun.. Rising artists like Polica, JEFF The Brotherhood, Dev and SBTRKT help round out the lineup.

Founded by Jane's Addiction leader Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza has remained a one-weekend event in Chicago since 2005, after starting as a touring fest in 1991. Lollapalooza started hosting a two-day festival in Chile in April 2011, while Lollapalooza Brasil was introduced to Sao Paulo last weekend, with the Foo Fighters and Jane's Addiction headlining. Eminem, Coldplay, the Foo Fighters and Muse served as headliners at last year's U.S. version.

Tickets for Lollapalooza are currently on sale at the festival's official web site, with Early Bird 3-Day passes quickly selling out after going on sale on Mar. 27.
