The Billboard Mexican Music Awards are Oct. 18. Here's a closer look at some of the most head-turning finalists, including 3BallMTY, Shaila Durcal, and Jenni Rivera.
Sweet lyrics. Dramatic melodies. Romantic escapades. These are some of the themes of the songs by finalists of the second edition of the Billboard Mexican Music Awards being held on Oct. 18 and airing live on Telemundo from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The program, sponsored by State Farm, will feature some of the genre's biggest names from crooning legends to divine divas and to the newest faces in the music scene. These artists have made their way into the Billboard charts in a major way: the genre accounts for 49% of all Latin music shipments in the United States, according to the RIAA. "Tanto Amor" (So Much Love)
Spanish singer Shaila Durcal is the daughter of the legendary entertainer Rocio Durcal, but she has continually found her own path with albums such as "Asi" (Like This) featuring a collection of ballads that have received regular rotation on the radio.
"Basta Ya" (Enough) feat. Jenni Rivera and Marco Antonio Solís
Jenni Rivera is a self-proclaimed diva with an empire that includes music, a reality show and beauty products, among other businesses. Most recently she produced two albums, one recorded in banda and the other in pop. The singer is a finalist in categories that include female artist, album, banda and song (vocal event) of the year.

"Te Quiero A Morir" (I Love You to Death)
Banda el Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga has sold more than two million albums, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and next year the group will celebrate 75 years in the business. A finalist in the categories of artist of the year-duo or group, banda song for "Te Quiero A Morir" (I Love You to Death) and banda album, the group recently made news when its tour bus crashed in Texas. But they're fine and back on the road.
"Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" performed by Selena Gomez
The late Selena Quintanilla is a finalist for female artist of the year. Her latest album features some of her most memorable songs including "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" performed this time by pop singer Selena Gomez who can be seen in this fan video singing a sweet tribute to the singer with whom she shares a name.
"Cuidare De Ti" (I'll Take Care of You)
Award-winning Horacio Palencia went from writing songs exclusively to singing them as well. His compositions of love and heartbreak make for rich mini-telenovelas through his well-produced videos.
