Irish indie band Two Door Cinema Club are no strangers to the festival stage, having held their own at several major events, including star-making turns at Coachella and Glastonbury earlier this year. But that doesn't mean the bright-eyed trio was fully accustomed to playing their jangly tunes under the blaring mid-day sun.
"Irish people aren't supposed be in this kind of heat," joked a blazer-wearing Alex Trimble during their 4PM Lollapalooza set. "And neither are gingers, so I'm dying up here." That didn't stop the group from killing the enthusiastic Lolla crowd with their summer-ready brand of Britpop.
Three solid years of touring behind the batch of songs that made up their 2010 debut album, "Tourist History," have made the band a formidable live force. But the group is already thinking ahead and have already composed a handful of tunes for their new album - including a new track, "Sleep Alone," which they debuted for the Lola crowd.
When their North American tour wraps in September, the trio plans to hole up in a house together in Belfast and begin work full-steam on a new album.
"So far we've written three, four, five new songs that we're pretty happy with," says Trimble, "and we've started those live as well, so seeing how those go down and just gonna keep going that way until we finish touring at the end of September, and then taking a few months off touring to just solidly write."
