Hot Tours: Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney
Paul McCartney Gets Tribute Album, Walk of Fame Star

Paul McCartney tops the weekly list of Hot Tours with ticket sales totals from his On The Run Tour that made a brief jaunt through five North American markets during July and August. This week's sum, reported by AEG Live promoter Concerts West, includes grosses from Detroit, Montreal, Chicago and Cincinnati. Macca moved 196,831 tickets in the four cities, grossing just over $24 million from six sold out performances. The tour stopped at Detroit's Comerica Park on July 24 drawing 37,854 fans to see the rock legend at the home stadium of Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers. Prior to this tour, McCartney's last stadium date in the Detroit area came in June 1993 when he performed at the Pontiac Silverdome with over 49,000 in attendance. He also played twice in the last decade (2002 and 2005) at the 20,000-seat arena, Palace of Auburn Hills, in the Detroit-area suburbs. There was just one arena on this tour's itinerary, Bell Centre in Montreal, with performances on July 26 and 27. Attendance for both nights was 33,733 with gross ticket sales topping $5.1 million ($5.4 million US$).

After Montreal, the On The Run Tour returned to the U.S. to play two more Major League Baseball stadiums, Wrigley Field in Chicago and the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The Chicago appearance included shows on two consecutive days (July 31 and Aug. 1) with a total ticket sales count of 83,988. The combined gross for the performances at the Chicago Cubs' legendary home stadium was $10.9 million, the top concert gross total by a single headliner at a U.S. venue so far this year. Wrapping the summer trek in Cincinnati on Aug. 4, McCartney played to a sellout crowd of 41,256 at the eight-year old home venue of the Cincinnati Reds with sold tickets totaling more than $4.1 million.

Stadium dates also helped country superstars Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney earn a top slot on this week's Hot Tours tally. Swift's No. 2 ranking was due in large part to a $4.2 million gross from a sold out performance on Aug. 6 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Her Speak Now World Tour also sold out shows at arenas in the Washington D.C. and Chicago markets giving her an overall box office total of $8.2 million. Chesney's stadium performance was at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the first stadium he has ever played in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. The Aug. 13 sold out concert, also starring the Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band, drew a crowd of 55,239, generating ticket sales of more than $5 million. Adding the grosses from amphitheater dates in Virginia Beach and Raleigh and an arena show in Indiana, Chesney ranks third this week with an overall gross total of $7.2 million.
