Danzig, Death, Of Montreal To Play Fun Fun Fun Fest

Of Montreal, Mission of Burma, Danzig, the Jesus Lizard, Les Savy Fav and GZA are among the dozens of acts who will perform at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas. The fourth annual gathering of primarily independent and underground artists will take place at Austin's Waterloo Park on Nov. 7-8. Other groups scheduled to appear include Yeasayer, Ratatat, Crystal Castles, No Age, Pharcyde and Melt Banana.

Passes for the two day festival go on sale today for $67.50 during a two-week early-bird period, and then will sell for the full price of $75. $135 PIP (Pretty Important Person) passes are also available for the next two weeks. Tickets and other information about the festival are available at funfunfunfest.com.

The event, which promoters Transmission Entertainment bill as "a boutique festival experience that supports emerging artists, the creative class, local business, and bands we just love to see play, regardless of genre or MTV airplay" has grown in size and prominence since its inception in 2006, and this year promoters expect upwards of 10,000 attendees. Previous year's acts have included the National, the Dead Milkmen, Ted Leo, Cat Power and Spoon.

In addition to the only Austin-area appearance of former resident David Yow's reunited Jesus Lizard, this year's festival boasts a rare performance by Death, a punk band made up of three African American brothers -- Bobby, Dannis and David Hackney -- that recorded a single in 1974 and vanished soon after. Earlier this year, Drag City released a compilation of the brothers' single and unreleased recordings as "...For the Whole World to See." Guitarist David Hackney died in 2000, and the lineup will likely include Bobby, Dannis and Bobbie Duncan, guitarist for a reggae band the surviving brothers formed in 1983.
