On Jan. 11, the group returns to North America for 13 support dates with fellow U.K. rock brethren the Charlatans. The shows come in support of Starsailor's Capitol debut, "Love Is Here," due Jan. 8 in North America.

Federal authorities are investigating the owner of the Cessna twin-engine plane that crashed in the Bahamas, killing singer Aaliyah and eight others, according to court documents. Gilbert Chacon is accused of withholding maintenance logs and records for the plane despite repeated requests by investigators to hand them over, according to a 26-page affidavit filed in Miami in support of a search warrant. The document also claims that Chacon lied about his connection to the airplane.
Comedian/actor Bernie Mac will host the 2001 Billboard Music Awards, airing live from Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena Dec. 4 on Fox television, beginning at 8 p.m. The show's celebrity quotient continues to rise with DMX, Nelly, Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, and actor Matthew McConaughey the latest to sign on to make appearances during the event. Former pop star and music industry entrepreneur Jonathan King has been sentenced to seven years in jail in England for a series of sexual assaults against schoolboys. A jury at the Old Bailey in London today (Nov. 21) heard that the 56-year-old, from Bayswater, West London, had "used his celebrity status" to lure teenage boys to his home between 1983 and 1989. He was found guilty of six offenses of sexual assault involving five boys aged between 14 and 15, and charged under his real name, Kenneth King.
The National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and several songwriters have filed a class-action copyright-infringement suit against three peer-to-peer online music services, Billboard Bulletin reports. The suit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles, is against MusicCity, which operates the popular Morpheus service; Grokster.com; and Fast Track.
Bruce Springsteen will once again host a series of holiday benefit shows at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, N.J. The five concerts, set for Dec. 3-4 and 6-8, will feature the Max Weinberg 7 from "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" and will benefit local charities. Tickets to the shows go on sale Tuesday (Nov. 27) at 9 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster phone sales only, priced at $50 and $100.

Phish bassist Mike Gordon, former God Street Wine guitarist/vocalist Lo Faber, keyboardist John Medeski, and avant-garde turntablist DJ Logic were among the musicians that gathered Sunday night at New York's B.B. King's Blues Club for the Jammin' for Salmon: A Celebration of Life and Music benefit. Pulled together in less than a week, the event, an East Coast equivalent to several recent Colorado-based shows, was conceived to raise money for Leftover Salmon banjoist and founding member Mark Vann, who was recently diagnosed with melanoma and began chemotherapy last month.
