Randy Newman, T Bone Burnett Earn Oscar Nominations
Randy Newman has been nominated twice for an Academy Award in the category for music (best original song).
The singer-songwriter is nominated for "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans," both of which he wrote for the animated Walt Disney feature "The Princess and the Frog."
Newman will vie for the original song Oscar against Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett, who are nominated for "The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)" from "Crazy Heart," which stars Jeff Bridges as a country music singer. Bingham and Burnett won best original song at the Golden Globes in January.
Also nominated in the best original song category are composer Reinhardt Wagner and lyricist Frank Thomas for "Loin de Paname" from French musical "Paris 36," and Maury Yeston for "Take It All" from the musical "Nine."
The nominees for best original score are James Horner for "Avatar," Alexandre Desplat for "Fantastic Mr. Fox," Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders for "The Hurt Locker," Hans Zimmer for "Sherlock Holmes" and Michael Giacchino for "Up."
